About us

“Przegląd Historyczny” is one of the most famous and oldest historical periodicals in Poland. It was founded in 1905 in Warsaw and was initially published by the well-known Warsaw publishing company Gebethner and Wolff. The first editorial board included prominent scholars Ignacy Chrzanowski, Samuel Dickstein, Aleksander Jabłonowski, Stanisław Kętrzyński, Aleksander Kraushar, Franciszek Pułaski, Władysław Smoleński and Wacław Sobieski.

In 1906, the Review became the official journal of the just-founded Society Towarzystwo Miłośników Historii. Aleksander Jablonowski was elected the first president of Society, followed until 1939 by A. Kraushar (from 1912), and S. Kętrzynski (from 1933), all of whom were among the founders of the Review.

The editors of the Review for more than 100 years of its existence were Jan Karol Korwin-Kochanowski (from 1905), Marceli Handelsman and Stanislaw Ketrzynski (1917-1939), Janusz Woliński (1946-1952), Stefan Kieniewicz (1952-1992), Andrzej Wyrobisz (1993-2003), Włodzimierz Lengauer (2003-2012), Jerzy Kochanowski (2013-2018), Krzysztof Skwierczyński (2019-2021), and currently (from 2022) Marek A. Janicki.

Since 1994. “Historical Review” (ISSN 0033-2186) is the journal of the UW Faculty of History and the Society, published by DiG Publishing House.
